NOAH Parents,

I hope the 2011-12 school year is going well for everyone. Whether you are wrapping up, in the middle of, or preparing for your season We pray that this season is the most God glorifying NOAH season ever!

The NOAH Board would like to invite any parents interested to attend this months board meeting which will be held on Tuesday, October 25th at 7:30pm at East Bible Chapel located at 1215 South 135th East Avenue.

The topic the NOAH board requests your input on is.....DEFINING NOAH ELIGIBILITY.

With the landscape of homeschooling broadening all around us, it is imperative that we prayerfully set the course for the near future of NOAH athletics regarding some foundational questions. As players, parents, coaches, Athletic Directors and Board Members we are all being ask on an increasing basis "Who can play for NOAH?", "How do we define Homeschooling?" "Who does NOAH serve?" even........"What is the purpose of NOAH?"

Homeschool organizations across the country are working through the same issues. Decisions on how to define homeschooling for eligibility purposes are varied, ranging from a simple question being ask of each family such as "Do you homeschool 51% of the time?" to a more detailed look at how, when and where a family educates are being used to determine eligibility. As you all know there are many more homeschooling options today for a family to consider then when NOAH was formed a dozen years ago. We all have kids involved in or families coming to us with questions regarding NOAH eligibility of student athletes that are being educated from home via online courses in both public, private and charter programs, some part time others full time. The same is to be said regarding Tutorial Centers and Co-Ops. The trend around us seems to be only broadening so the need for us to set the course is at a all time high.

If you are interested in attending, please mark your calendars, make arrangements and come with your thoughts ready to be expressed on Tuesday, October 25th at 7:30pm at East Bible Chapel located on 1215 South 135th East Avenue. The Board greatly values and needs your input, guidance and prayers!

CLUB NOAH

NOAH Parents,
This season we are partnering with Shock Basketball Academy to offer additional skills and agility training. Our first session begins this Monday, October 17th, at 2pm at the Shock Basketball Academy gym at 8730 East Skelly Drive (gym is located behind the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church). Players will receive fundamental basketball skills coaching and specialized speed and agility training. Monday and Tuesday sessions are FREE trial days for you to see the benefit this program will provide.

NOAH Club is offered 2-4 every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday until March 8th (except for a few holidays). It is a come when you can program. The cost is $50 for the first month and $75 the next 4 months. NOAH Players who participate for the entire season will receive a free Nationals Tune-up Clinic the week before Nationals.

MANDATORY FOR ALL AGES – INCLUDING VARSITY!!! Parent meeting Tuesday evening, Sept. 27th, at Liberty Church (77th Garnett) – 7:00. Vital information will be provided about fees, practices, game schedules, uniforms, etc. The meeting will last no longer than one hour. Please have your player try-on their uniform before the meeting to make sure it fits. Every year we have players show up for the first game which did not MAKE SURE their uniform fit and it was too late to order a replacement.
As you come in, pick up forms to fill out during the meeting and then turn them in before you leave OR you can go to noahjags.org and print off forms and bring them with you already completed.

NO Clinics this Tuesday, in order for everyone to attend the parent meeting (with the exception of varsity boys). We will extend Tuesday team clinics one additional session to October 17th.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 30th the NOAH Basketball players will be recognized during the halftime of the NOAH Football Game.. All NOAH basketball players and coaches will be admitted free into the game. Players should wear their game jerseys or Jag Gear. Inform the gate attendant you are a coach or a basketball player. Right before halftime we will meet at the south bleachers and be introduced.
It will be a fun evening as NOAH basketball will also sponsor a tailgate party before the game on the east side of the main parking lot. Bring your dinner and lawn chairs for dinner before the game.
NOAH will be playing #1 ranked Heritage Hall at 7:30 at Broken Arrow South Intermediate High School (1 block east of 101st & Elm).

NOAH Basketball Summer Opportunities!

NOAH has 100 FREE opening night Women's Shock basketball tickets available for all NOAH families wanting to attend. These are regular $10 tickets. The game is Friday, June 10th at 7:00. It is first come first serve. Please reply to basketball@noahjags.org with how many tickets you need.

We are in search for a varsity boys head coach and have openings for elementary coaches for the 2011-12 season also. You can go to http://noahjags.org/NOAH/forms/CoachingApplication-NOAH.pdf to apply or email basketball@noahjags.org for more information.

The Boys Varsity and JV teams are currently holding two workouts per week in preparation for the Cleveland and ORU summer team camps. Please contact basketball@noahjags.org for information.

The NOAH Junior Varsity and Varsity girls are holding summer workouts twice a week and participating in the East Central summer league. They will also participate in a few summer team camps. For more information email basketball@noahjags.org.

The 10-14 year-old girls will play in the Mannford Summer tournament held June 6-8th. We have registered a 5th/6th grade team and a 7th/8th grade team. Each team will play 10 games over the 3 day span. For more information email basketball@noahjags.org.

NOAH Alum, Jarett Boss Advances to JuCo National Tournament

   Cape Fear Community College claimed first place in the Region X Conference Tournament in South Carolina, this past Saturday. The Cape Fear victory means the Sea Devils will be headed back to Hutchinson,Kansas in order to play in the national junior college basketball tournament later this month for the second time in a three year period. Cape Fear will play Tallahassee Community College in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday, March 16th

    Boss, a 6'3" sophomore guard for the Sea Devils, sank a key 3-pointer in the late minutes of the Region Ten Championship.

    Jarett's father & former coach, Chad Boss, cited the alum as the all-time scoring leader for the NOAH Jaguars.

NOAH Girls Varsity gains Top Seed in National Preliminary Rounds

   The National Homeschool Basketball Tournament is set to convene in Springfield, next week. Among the 32 varsity girls teams, NOAH was given 1 of 8 top-seeds for the preliminary brackets.
    If NOAH Varsity Girls win the first 2 rounds on Monday and Tuesday, they will be placed in the top (6A) bracket for the trophy rounds which follow, on Wed-Sat..

NOAH Coaches Game

Hey NOAH Families,

We have an evening of fun and celebration planned to get us ready for Nationals. The main event will be a basketball game: the Boys’ Coaches vs. the Girls’ Coaches. Come prepared to “encourage” or to “heckle”. Either way be ready for a good time! Coaches bring your “A” game.

Pizza will be sold for $1.50 per slice, or two slices and a drink for $3. We will offer Pepperoni, Cheese, Sausage, or Supreme from a local pizza restaurant. The concession stand will be open with everything being sold at ½ price.

We will have door prizes, half-court shot contest, and lots of hang-out time with friends and teammates.

Dear Home Schooling Families,

Due to the tremendous success of our NOAH Junior High and High School football programs over the past seven years, we have had many inquiries regarding a tackle youth football program that would feed into our Junior High program. We are now ready to look into the launch of a full padded/tackle youth football program in the fall of this year!!

Although we are close, a guaranteed acceptance into a league has not yet been confirmed and there are still many details to work out.

We want to first start by “checking-the-pulse”. If you have (or know of families that have) boys that are:

Varsity Schedule Changes

Due to the weather, we have moved tonights game between NOAH and Summit Chrisitan Academy to Town and Country Gym at 5150 East 101st in Tulsa. The JV boys tip off at 6:00 and the Varsity boys will follow at 7:30. No girls games will be played.

This Saturday, Feb 12th, the NOAH varsity squads will play Sand Springs. The girls will tip-off at 2:00 and the boys at 3:30. The games will be played at the Sand Springs High School Gym.

Next Friday, February 18th, the NOAH Jags will play the Bartlesville Bruins in Bartlesville.

With the weekend tournaments scrapped by weather issues, NOAH's coach, Curtis Branch, just landed a jewel of a matchup with Jenks, tomorrow, Jan. 22nd, at 1pm & 2:30pm

Both the varsity girls and boys will have head-to-head games at the Jenks Field House.

This is an opportunity to showcase the premier homeschool sports program in the nation, before statewide media and prep athletic leaders.

We really need our fans in the stands for this event. Come on out for a great day of family fun and demonstrate your homeschool spirit.

Tournaments Postponed a Day

Due to Winter weather, both the Boys & Girls basketball tournaments slated for Thursday evening have been postponed until Friday.
According to the Tulsa World report, Public schools have long held policies not to have sporting events on days that the school has weather-related closings.
Jenks already reported a revised schedule which moves the games to Friday, Saturday, & Monday.

Varsity Tourneys This Thurs-Sat Boys at Webster, Girls at Jenks

The Jaguar Girls begin Metro Tournament play tonight, facing 6A Jenks at the Jenks Fieldhouse. Jenks is hosting the first 2 days of play and NOAH will need a good crowd of Jag supporters to nuetralize the home court advantage. NOAH has prime time billing(7pm) in the Thursday opener.

Friday night may very will be set up for a rematch of NOAH vs Bishop Kelley. NOAH shocked the sportswriters earlier this month by defeating Bishop Kelley in overtime.

The NOAH Boys play Thursday-Saturday in the Webster Invitational. you'll want to be a part of these 2 events as NOAH Basketball continues to build a high profile athletic presence in the Oklahoma Prep arenas.

The Bill Allen Tournament includes Tulsa Central, Sand Springs, Webster, and NOAH. There was a time when NOAH only dreamed of competing with 5A & 6A teams. We seem quite at home now. The Boys could really use some fan support this week as they build up toward a strong finish. Game Times TBA. Tournament starts a 4pm, Thursday.

The 2011 National Home school Basketball Nationals will be held in Springfield, MO the week of March 14th. We encourage all players to attend this fun and exciting week of basketball. In order to attend you must register on-line. Please do so as soon as possible:

The Nationals entry fee of $25 includes a t-shirt and a program.

The three things we need this weekend are:

(1) to inform your coach of your intent to attend Nationals,

(2) let your coach know about your accommodations,

(3) And GET REGISTERED!!!

I recommend if you are staying in a hotel that you secure your room soon. Hotels are booking fast in Springfield. Another option offered to the NOAH families is dorm accommodations.

We have secured dorm rooms at Bible Baptist College again this year. Staying in the dorms is an affordable way for you and your child or your whole family to attend Nationals. On site there will be a ladies floor, a gentleman’s floor, and depending on interest, a family floor. Each room sleeps four. Dorm accommodations include both breakfast and dinner. $90 covers 5 nights per person (Mon night -Sat morning). All athletes are required to have a adult sponsor (parent or other). Registration for the dorms will be sent soon.

Clark Bickers says “I'd encourage every family to consider staying in the dorm. It makes Nationals affordable, but even better, it really brings the NOAH community together. I've been a part of NOAH for 12 years, and the last two years staying in the dorm have been the best times my family and I have ever had at Nationals.”

PLEASE INFORM YOUR COACH OR TEAM MOM THIS WEEKEND OF YOUR INTENT TO ATTEND NATIONALS AND IF YOU PLAN TO STAY IN THE DORMS. THESE ROOMS WILL GO ON A FIRST COME – FIRST SERVE BASIS.

Community Service Project

Each year the John 3:16 Family & Youth Center feeds thousands of families in the Tulsa area, but this year their food bank is at an all time low. It will be an unfortunate Thanksgiving for many families this year if the food bank is not replenished in time.

We need your help!

NOAH is assisting John 3:16 in this project, and we are in need of volunteers. Please join us!

Volunteers will hand out flyers that detail the grocery items needed for the Thanksgiving project. The customer will purchase the item(s) and then return them to our table.

Tulsa Shock Game Day Clinic

This Saturday, August 14th - All NOAH basketball players and siblings are invited to a game day clinic hosted by the Tulsa Shock. It will be held at the BOK Arena Center Floor and will start at 2:30 and end at 4:30. The cost is $35 which includes a Shock t-shirt, shock basketball, and a ticket to the game. Elementary and Junior High Basketball Clinics

NOAH is partnering with The Shock Basketball Academy and Sports City U to provide our elementary and junior high players a top level, professional skill development summer opportunity. This is being offered at a 30% DISCOUNT for NOAH players only. We will have 8 (1-hour) sessions (once a week). The total cost for all 8 sessions is only $100. The players will receive individual attention as we will cap each session at 15 kids. We will start these clinics the week of June 15th and run through the 2nd week of August. These clinics will provide your son or daughter an opportunity to develop ball handling and shooting skills and will lead directly into our player evaluations in August. If interested you register at the following clinics and times:

All clinics at First Baptist Church Broken Arrow at Highway 51 and Elm.

Depending on the turn-out we will open additional times as needed.

NOAH basketball summer news

The 2010-11 NOAH basketball season is just around the corner and so there is a lot of exciting news!

Summer clinics will be offered during June and July, two days per week. These sessions are designed to develop basketball fundamentals. They are NOT mandatory to play NOAH but you must be a home school student or planning to be home schooled this coming school year to participate. More details to be announced next week.

We will also be offering our annual summer skills camp in July. Be watching the NOAH blog for more information.

It was a great week in Springfield. Thanks to all the coaches, players and families for your hard work and dedication. A special thanks to Paul Foster for arranging the dorm at Baptist Bible College for our headquarters for the week. Thanks to Candy Matheny and Kim Winn for coordinating the dorm, meals, and devotions for the week. Thanks to all those who cooked and cleaned and made it a very enjoyable week. 18 boys (varsity): 1-4 Finished 8th in Class 4A, which placed them 24th out of 86 teams in the 18 boys division.

18 girls (varsity): 4-1 on the week. Finished 5th in Class 6A, which placed them 5th out of 50 teams in the 18 girls division.

16 boys: 2-2 on the week. Finished 4th in Class 4A, which them 21st out of 34 teams in the 16 boys division.

A Word About Nationals

NOAH Coaches, Players and Fans,

It is what we’ve been working towards all year, the National Tournament. The week of March 15-20 is going to be a great experience for newcomers and veterans alike. If you are a basketball junkie this is your week with non-stop basketball from morning to night. We’ve got teams from 10U – 18U boys and girls. Let me encourage you to support them all by attending and cheering on the Jags in every age group.

I want to take a moment to remind everyone of a couple of things. First, we are representatives not only of NOAH, but also of Christ, and as such, we are to glorify God in all we do, and yes, that includes attending basketball games. Unfortunately NOAH has gained a reputation in recent years that does not reflect well on our core values. It is one thing to enthusiastically cheer for our team. It is quite another to mock or taunt the opposing team. “But it’s all in fun. Others do it.” That may be, but it is not in keeping with our stated purpose and it is a clear violation of our code of conduct. I understand getting caught up in the excitement of a game, but that is not an excuse for mocking, taunting or commenting to opposing players, coaches or officials.

Coaches and parents, please take time to go over the code of conduct with your players and before nationals. Then, please challenge them and yourselves to make this a week we truly represent NOAH and more importantly Christ in our sport.
Second, we glorify God by giving our best effort in every game. Players, this is your opportunity to shine for Christ. That means whether you are a starter or the 8th man or lady off the bench you give your all for the sake of the team throughout the tournament. Win or lose, it is a team effort. We can ask no more of you then for you to give your best and we will accept nothing less. Off the court we expect you to show respect for others and a cooperative spirit.
Finally, we go to Springfield as part of the NOAH family. Due to hectic schedules with practices and games we don’t often get to interact with one another. With having different gyms we tend to be either elementary, junior high or varsity. This week we are NOAH. We are one. Take the opportunity to get to know one another. Share a meal together, support all the NOAH teams and be part of the NOAH family.

I’m looking forward to a great week of basketball and spending time with “the family.” If you have questions or if something comes up and you need me during the week you can reach me on my cell at 918-695-3281. I look forward to seeing you in Springfield!

On Sat, Feb. 20......
It will be available for people to look through to see if you find something that you have been missing.
After the Boys Varsity game, anything left in the box will be available for anyone to take that can use it. Then the rest will be donated to charity.

WWII Batfish War Museum Education Day

USS Batfish Living History Association and the Muskogee War Memorial
Special Education Day aboard the famous World War 2 submarine USS Batfish!

There will be re-enactors there to talk about the sub, what life was like, and how things work, along with being able to tour the sub and visit the museum.
For this Education Day home schoolers get in for HALF price.

Starting at 10:00 A.M.
This Friday,February 19, 2010
School groups will be admitted for the cost of only $3.00 per student.(They didn't put a limit on the group, so it could be a small group. Consider going it is very interesting.)

The students will also receive a guided tour of the museum. Each tour of the boat can be expected to last about an hour but will be tailored to the age group of the students involved. Space aboard the submarine is very limited, so this opportunity will only be open to the first 400 students. Please make your reservations soon!

NOAH Varsity Girls In Championship Game

NOAH's varsity girls will play in the championship game of the Mounds Tournament at 7 tonight (Saturday, Jan. 23) against Oktaha.

NOAH advanced to the championship game with Friday night's 53-37 victory over Kellyville.

Show your support for the NOAH girls team by making the short drive to the Mounds High School gym to cheer for the Jaguars as they go for the tournament title.

We hope to see everyone at 7 tonight at Mounds High School.

OCHEC distributed the following two bills this past week. Mary Easley is a perrenial anti-homeschooling bill filer. Remember to sign up to attend Capitol Day in February ( see THE NEWS January issue) or go to www.ochec.com to register. We are grateful to be able to work alongside OCHEC to support Capitol Day and also the upcoming Tulsa Homeschool Convention.

Your presence at Capitol Day is vital to preserve our freedom in this state and your firm but polite call to your representative is more important than you realize. To a legislator, one call represents thousands of unmade calls.

Senator Mary Easley, has pre-filed a bill for the 2010 session that would include the following language into law: "The parent or guardian of a child utilizing other means of education shall provide written notification to the public school district of residence of intent to utilize other means of education prior to the first day of each school year, or within ten (10) days of the beginning of the provision of such other means of education to the student."

OCHEC opposes this bill because, regardless of it's intent, it accomplishes nothing. It is unnecessary and is wasteful of both the parent's and state's time and resources.

Notification will not improve home educated students academically. Studies have consistently shown that there is no correlation between the amount of state regulation of home education and academic success.

Notification will not prevent parents from fraudulently claiming to be home educating their child. Oklahoma's laws regarding truancy and educational neglect have been reviewed and found to be adequate, when enforced. If there are parents willing to incur charges of truancy, they would certainly be willing to file a fraudulent notification. Scofflaws will continue to scoff at laws.

Please contact Senator Easley by telephone, email and/or mail and express your opposition to this bill. This would also be an excellent opportunity to contact your senator and ask that this bill be opposed. Contact information may be found at: www.lsb.state.ok.us .

Once the bill has been assigned to a committee, OCHEC will request that you contact the members of the committee and ask that the bill not be heard.

Bad Bill #2

Subject: Another bad bill. We have to make a show at the Capitol this year!

Ok, folks. Stap on your belts and get ready for a ride. It looks as if there is a House Bill that will directly affect us if it goes through. The author is attempting to add the word APPROPRIATE to "education by other means" as well as some other things. Here is part B. of the Bill in question.

B. A parent, guardian or custodian who has failed to provide an appropriate education by other means to a child who is over the age of five (5) years and under the age of eighteen (18) years shall be in violation of this section. For purposes of this section, an “appropriate education by other means” shall mean providing educationally appropriate and age or grade appropriate instruction to the child that is necessary to ensure that the child attains at least a minimum level of competencies in a variety of core subject areas, and the instruction is provided for not less than the time public schools in the state are required to provide instruction.

This bill is authored by Representative Cannaday and is set to be read on February 1st. It is listed as an emergency bill.

Respectfully call your Representatives and ask them not to support HB 3099. Then sign up for Capitol Day so the legislators will know we are serious about what we do. This is why we hold Capitol Day the first week or so of session, so we can get on top of any proposed legislation and stop it before it has a chance to become a Bill. Seeing the faces of homeschoolers does make a difference! Plan now to put a face to home education in Oklahoma.

Instructor, Lisa Marshall acontributing writer to the Konos curriculum, will guide students through a hands-on adventure with the most interesting state in the nation. Oklahoma History is fascinating. Did you know that Tulsa was once a major trading center for all of North America? Just what were the Crazy Snake and Green Corn Rebellions? Why did Indian Territory play a pivotal role in Civil War? What is the state’s most famous wedding?

Students will learn this and much more about the history of Oklahoma through fun projects and simulations. Some of the fun projects will include a “shower curtain” map of OK, and experiencing such things as being an archeologist, an investigative journalist during the roaring Twenties, the “Trail of Tears”, choosing sides for the Civil War, running for state office, hardships of the Dust Bowl, and portraying a famous Oklahoma person and MUCH more!

3. Lodging: Sign up Jan. 15th. Varsity teams only until after Jan. 15. Other teams and their families are invited to put their names on a waiting list now and after the 15th deadline, the rooms will be available on a first sign-up basis. Rooms will be available until they are all given out.

Varsity girls and Boys and their families have secured lodging at the dorms on campus. We have 2 floors and the women sleep on one floor and men on the other.
We have some mom’s who have volunteered to cook 2 meals a day for us again this year.
The rooms are $5.00 per night per person. The cost of meals is still being worked out, but the total cost for Monday- Friday will be around $75-$100 per person. If you want to stay over on Sat. night, you can add on a nights lodging. This is a packaged deal, lodging and meals can’t be separated. (We need a volunteer to handle the assigning of rooms and checking in, we have the information, just need a coordinator, can you help?)

Concessions Help Needed

Needed:

Coke is delivering the soda on Thursday, Dec. 10, between 4:30-9:30 p.m. They usually show up earlier rather than later. I need someone to show them where to put it in the closet (all the way to the back on the sides), and sign that you got it.

I figure that there will be someone there since there are practices all night. So if you see the Coke man, just take charge.

This Thursday, I also need someone to put the soda and water in the cooler in the kitchen, so it will be cool for Saturday.

Needed:
1. A person to buy concession supplies. The first round is done.
2. A person to be in charge of straightening up the closet, and keeping it organized throughout the season and making notes of things needed, like masking tape. I usually do this right away and then just check up on it and straighten it when I'm at the gym for games. So a JH parent would be a good candidate for this as they spend more time at the T and C then varsity. You could even do this on your practice nights.

Below is the schedule for the NOAH Elementary Basketball Clinics. The elementary program is for homeschool students age 9 to 12 as of September 1st. You do not have to attend all clinics, but it is recommended. There is no cost for the clinics.

You must complete two forms before your child is able to participate in the clinics - a registration form and a statement of participation form. These forms will be available at the clinics.

How can you help NOAH Elementary? We need coaches, assistant coaches, and team coordinators/team mom for every team. We are still in need of a person to manage the schedule for the year. If you wish to coach or assistant coach, you need to fill out a coach's application which can be found on the NOAH website (www.noahjags.org). If you have submitted an application in the last 2 years, it is not necessary to fill one out, but you do need to contact me and let me know of your interest. It is also important that you attend the clinics and assist Matt Price with the clinics. Others that would like to volunteer for a specific job should contact me by email as well.

URGENT: Basketball Athletic Director Opening

Dear NOAH Basketball Families,

I’m sending this note out to inform all NOAH basketball families of a recent change in the leadership of the basketball program. It is with great sadness that I must inform you that Terry Tush has resigned as NOAH Basketball Athletic Director. As I’m sure you all know, the athletic director position, as all NOAH positions, is a volunteer spot that requires endless hours of commitment. Terry’s business has felt the squeeze of the current economic times and he is needing to devote more time than originally anticipated to providing for his family. Terry has lead the program for the past several months with impeccable diligence, care and concern. He has identified our current High School coaching staff, finalized our schedules, appropriated new and improved home game facilities and has done an overall fantastic job. We hate to lose him. Please be in prayer for Terry and his family as he seeks the Lord’s will.

Our plan moving forward is to have two members of the NOAH board step in to handle any day to day issues over the next couple of weeks, while at the same time opening up the AD position for applications until next Friday, August 21^st.. Anyone interested in the NOAH Basketball Athletic Directors position should go the NOAH website, download the “coaches application” complete it, and send it to me at fred@cwntx.com by Friday, August 21^st. Those selected by the Board for final review will then be asked to attend the Tuesday, August 25^th board meeting to present a plan and vision for the program. It is our hope to have a new AD in place by September 1^st.

NOAH Basketball Volunteer Positions

Please look over this list carefully, and prayerfully consider what you can do to help the NOAH basketball program have its best season ever in 2009-10.

The volunteer positions listed below are vital to the NOAH basketball program running smoothly this year. Remember, to keep the costs of playing at the most affordable rate possible while still maintaining a quality program it takes each and every family doing its part. If we all work together and carry our share of the load, it's much easier on everyone.

This is a list of several of the volunteer positions that need to be filled soon. There are numerous other opportunities to serve in the basketball program but these are some of the most vital and pressing. We will be discussing volunteer opportunities at next Tuesday's (Aug. 4) parent's meeting.

If you are interested in filling one of these positions or would like to get more information, please don't hesitate to contact NOAH Basketball Athletic Director Terry Tush (906-4377 or bignoahjagsfan@hotmail.com).

Secretary/Team Coordinator Director: This person will be responsible for keeping coaches and team coordinators informed throughout the season. He/she will collect all paperwork (rosters, players and coaches code of conducts, parent code of conducts, etc.). It will be their responsibility to recruit team coordinators and then communicate information to the team coordinators throughout the season. Thus, they must be able to update the NOAH Basketball Blog and forward information through e-mail.

Scheduler: Works with the athletic director to confirm times, teams, locations, and game changes. One of the most important duties will be scheduling practices for all high school and junior high teams (boys and girls), and communicating information to coaches and team coordinators.

Elementary Secretary & Elementary Scheduler: Both of these people will work side-by-side with Bronwyn Blount in helping to run the elementary program. The secretary's duties will include collecting all paperwork (rosters, players and coaches code of conducts, player fees, uniform fees, etc.) for the elementary teams, while the scheduler will assist in scheduling games and practice times/gyms.

Volunteer Coordinator: Oversees the volunteer program on the high school and junior high levels, which helps keep the costs of playing at the most affordable rate possible. This includes overseeing volunteers for concessions, maintenance, gate admissions at home games, clean up after games, etc. Must contact volunteers each week to ensure that each position is covered.

Facilities Director: Responsible for overseeing the operation of NOAH home games, which includes opening and closing the gym, making sure that games start on time (or as close as possible), that the gate admissions volunteer is on duty and prepared, referees are escorted into and out of the building, and paid in a timely manner, maintenance and repairs, if necessary.

National Christian Homeschool Basketball Championships Coordinator: Responsible for getting NOAH teams registered for all regional and national tournaments, and communicating with athletic director and coaches to collect all necessary information needed to compete in NCHBC events.

Basketball Camp Begins Monday

Are you ready for some NOAH Basketball Camps?

I hope so because the NOAH Skills and Shooting camps begin Monday at the First United Methodist Church of Tulsa’s Youth & Family Center with instruction from the Price brothers, including NOAH's own Matt Price and his brothers Mark and Brent.

Brent, who once scored 56 points in a game for the OU Sooners (second most in school history to only Wayman Tisdale) and who holds the NBA record for most consecutive three-pointers made with 13 in a row, will be serving as the lead instructor during the Skills Camp throughout the entire week.

Mark, now on the staff with the NBA's Atlanta Hawks and a four-time NBA All-Star, is known as one of the game's greatest shooters. He will be joining us Thursday as the lead instructor for the Shooting Camp, where he will be teaching the same techniques and drills that he uses with college and pro players.

The boys sessions of the Skills Camp will be 9 a.m.-noon, Monday through Thursday.

The girls sessions are 1-4 p.m., Monday through Wednesday. IMPORTANT NOTE: All NOAH girls are also invited to attend the 9 a.m.-noon session on Thursday morning, stay for lunch that day (see note below), and then participate in the Shooting Camp from 1-4 p.m. (if they have signed up to do so).

The Shooting Camp (for all boys and girls) is 1-4 p.m., Thursday.

When you arrive on Monday (boys in the morning and girls in the afternoon), there will be two tables with information for everyone. One table will be for checking in those who have already registered and those who want to register, and a second table will be a concessions bank.

We are going to allow parents to pay into a concessions bank on Monday for all concessions for the week, and that way the kids won't have to bring money with them each day. We will have drinks (Gatorade, flavored water, bottled water, etc.) and snacks (candy bars, chips, etc.) that will be available during a short break each day.

The options at the concessions stand will be:
1) any drink for $1, or
2) a drink and a snack for $1.75.

For Thursday, after the morning session is finished and before the afternoon Shooting Camp begins, we will be offering a Mazzio's pizza lunch plan ($4 for two pieces of pizza and a drink, and $1 for each additional piece of pizza).

We ask that you pay for all concessions and the pizza lunch plan when you arrive Monday, as this will give us an idea of how many pizzas we will need to order for Thursday.

Most of you reading this have already registered, but if you haven't there are still a limited number of spots available. Please call me today at 906-4377 to reserve a spot.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the kids involved in the NOAH basketball program to receive instruction from some of the best players in not only the history of Oklahoma basketball but also the history of the NBA. Please don't miss out!

NOAH Basketball Tryouts Set

Tryouts for the NOAH high school and junior high basketball teams (both boys and girls teams) are scheduled for late August.

Cost to attend the tryouts will be $50 (the same as last year), and that amount will be applied toward the registration fees for the basketball season.

Since we have cut down on the number of tryouts/clinics this year, it is recommended that you make every effort to attend all of the scheduled sessions.

NOAH complies with the age eligibility standards of the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association, which means:

To compete on the varsity/junior varsity teams, a player cannot be 19 years old before Sept. 1.

To compete on the junior high teams, a player cannot be 15 years old before Sept. 1.

The dates for the elementary basketball clinics will be announced at a later date.

NOAH Camps Scheduled July 20-23

The 2009 NOAH Jaguars Basketball Skills Camp and Shooting Camp are scheduled July 20-23 (Monday-Thursday) at First United Methodist Church of Tulsa’s Youth & Family Center in downtown Tulsa (1115 S. Boulder).

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR NOAH FAMILIES: We are allowing NOAH players the opportunity to sign up before anyone else. However, this early registration period exclusively for NOAH families will only run through June 26. We are only going to allow a certain number of participants, so please sign up before June 26, and don’t be left out.

Instruction throughout the week of the camp will be provided by NOAH’s own Matt Price, and his brothers Mark and Brent Price, both of whom played in the NBA for a number of years.

Both boys and girls ages 8 to 18 are eligible to participate in the two separate camps throughout the week – a Skills Camp the first part of the week, and a one-day Shooting Camp on Thursday afternoon.

The Skills Camp sessions for boys are scheduled for 9 a.m.-noon, Monday through Thursday.

The Skills Camp sessions for girls are scheduled from 1-4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.

The Shooting Camp – for both boys and girls – is scheduled for 1-4 p.m. Thursday.

NOAH players will receive a 50 percent discount on the price of participating in the camps. The cost to attend both camps will be $150 … but for NOAH players it will be just $75, which includes a camp T-shirt. The Shooting camp cost is $100 ($50 for NOAH athletes).

The Shooting Camp will be unlike any other camp offered in the United States, as all three Price brothers will be offering instruction during the Thursday afternoon session.

Mark Price, an assistant coach with the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks, was a four-time NBA All-Star who is widely considered one of the game’s greatest shooters. He retired in 1998 but remains the NBA record holder for career free-throw percentage. NBA teams send players to him for individual shooting instruction, and he will be teaching the same techniques and drills he uses with the pro players during this special camp.

Brent Price, a nine-year NBA veteran who played for the Washington Bullets, Houston Rockets, Vancouver Grizzlies and Sacramento Kings before retiring in 2003, also will be offering instruction throughout the week at both the Skills Camp and Shooting Camp.

Matt Price is a former college coach and college player who will serve as director of both camps.

A concessions stand will be available each day of the camp.

Boys Summer Workout Schedule

Thanks to everyone who attended Monday night’s boys basketball meeting.

If you were not able to attend, you missed a chance to visit with new NOAH varsity head coach Zac Harris and assistant varsity coach Jordan Boss.

The summer workout schedule has been set for high school and junior high players, under the direction of Zac and Jordan.

We are asking each player that participates to help with the cost of renting the gyms – $35 for high school players and $15 for junior high players for the entire summer.

Zac Harris named NOAH boys varsity basketball coach

Zac Harris has been selected as head coach of the NOAH boys varsity basketball team.

The 24-year-old Harris is a former NOAH player (1998 to 2003) who earned Most Valuable Player honors as a guard while playing for the Jaguars at the 2003 National Christian Homeschool Basketball Championships.

Harris has continued his involvement with the NOAH basketball program in recent seasons, volunteering in a variety of positions including junior varsity head coach, junior high head coach, varsity assistant coach, and junior high assistant coach.

“It is an honor to be selected as the head basketball coach for NOAH. I have enjoyed playing and coaching for NOAH, and I am truly excited to continue to build on what NOAH has already accomplished as a program,” Harris said.

NOAH Basketball Athletic Director Terry Tush is pleased that Harris has accepted the boys varsity coaching position.

“Zac has been around the NOAH program since its inception in 1998, and has witnessed firsthand its growth over the years to where today there are nearly 500 homeschool students involved in a number of sports,” Tush said.

“Zac believes that NOAH is a ministry for Christ and believes that God has great things in store for the future. He is dedicated to teaching the game of basketball to his players, but more importantly instilling in them Godly character traits and values that will last a lifetime. Zac is going to do a great job in leading the NOAH basketball program.”

High school and junior high boys who are interested in playing for NOAH during the 2009-10 basketball season will have the opportunity to meet Harris at an informational meeting on Monday, June 1. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at Springs of Grace Bible Church (7123 E. 7th Street in Tulsa, located between Sheridan and Memorial just north of 11th Street).

Returning NOAH players and those who are considering playing for NOAH for the first time are encouraged to attend, and will have the opportunity to visit with Harris.
